Erin Loechner: On Board and In Style

A former online personality for HGTV.com and founder of one of the most admired design blogs, Erin Loechner’s bright personality shines throughout her boards. Whether you’re into interior design or metallic things, you just might find something creative that will inspire you.
Hi Erin! First, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I started blogging personally in 2001 and fell in love with the practice of sharing and connecting with others online. In 2006, I started Design for Mankind as a place to catalog the endless inspiration I was searching for in my day job as an ad agency art director. The Internet makes location nearly irrelevant and I find it fascinating to find and learn about so many different facets of design that I might never have the chance to see in person.
Your blog has tons of creative finds from furniture to art. What defines something that is MYkind?
MYkind is a segment of Design for Mankind where I share what’s going on in my life personally. But in terms of the general aesthetic of Design for Mankind, I like to post anything that elicits a positive reaction for me. This changes daily, so I’m never out of inspiring finds that I discover in the most unlikely places, whether that be something as random as shoes that match chairs or unique art installations.

Every week, you feature items of the same color. How do you decide what color to choose (and what’s your favorite)?
It’s amazing how many colors exist in different variations, so I love this exercise to hone in on some of my favorite hues. I’ll often choose a color to feature after seeing it somewhere in my daily life - running errands, on a daily walk, etc. Lately I’ve been loving cerulean blue, so I’d say that’s my current favorite.

You had/have some pretty cool gigs with HGTV. How did that experience shape your outlook on style and design?
You know, working with HGTV.com has been such a fun experience because I’ve never considered myself an interior designer. I love that we featured our own renovation and experience designing an entire home with no real training. It’s a great example that when it comes to aesthetics, personal style and creativity always outshines something by-the-books.

We love all your pins. Is there is a specific board that is special or meaningful to you?
My favorite board is Random Inspiration, because it’s a catchall for all of the amazing things I’d never have time to post on Design for Mankind. The world is truly overflowing with creativity!
Thanks for the pinterview, Erin! We’re looking to seeing more of your creative inspirations on your blog and your Pinterest boards. Happy pinning!
